Guitar Members - Bass Guitar Section

The Bass Guitar, Electric Bass or just Bass, has traditionally been part of the rhythm section of the band. The job of the Bass player has generally been to hold down the beat, creating the groove for the other guys in the band to follow. Together with the drummer they lay the foundation for the music.

In recent years with the advent of 5 and 6 string basses we have seen more Bass players introducing melody into their playing. As a Bass player myself this is a welcome departure because it allows us to put more expression into our music and opens up the scope and range of our musical expression.

That said, the normal role of the Bass player remains one of rhythm. Unless the style of music that your band is playing allows for it, the job of the Bass player is to add to the overall sound but not tread on anybody's toes.

In this section we introduce the Bass as an instrument, providing some history and background and tuition to take the aspiring Bass player from day one through to the advanced techniques that accomplished Bass players use today.
